MATCH REPORT | Valencia CF end season with draw against SD Huesca (0-0)
Valencia CF ended the 2020/21 LaLiga season with a goalless draw against SD Huesca at El Alcoraz, as neither side was able to find the net on the final matchday. Whilst the team were playing for pride, Huesca had top flight survival at stake, and the result left them in the bottom three at the end of the campaign, relegating them to the Segunda División.
For Valencia CF the game was an opportunity to build on their impressive display against Eibar the previous weekend. However, whilst that game was a 4-1 goalfest, the Matchday 38 encounter was a more cagey affair.
In an evenly-matched first half, Jasper Cillessen would make several saves to deny the home side an opening goal, whilst there were few attacks inside the opposition area.
After the halftime break, Maxi Gómez tested the reflexes of Álvaro Fernández with a shot of his own -the most dangerous from a Valencia CF player all evening.
Things began to open up towards the end, as news filtered through of Elche having taken the lead against Athletic Club and put Huesca into the relegation zone. They hit the post in the 78th minute through Sandro Ramírez with a strike from outside the box, but would not breach the Valencia CF net.
Yunus Musah would convert a counterattack late on, but it was disallowed for offside against the US international and the game came to a close with no change in the scoreline.
Huesca are relegated to the Segunda División, and Valencia CF will look to improve upon a difficult campaign in the top tier in 2021/22.
